In addition to the special section on digital library and digital curation education, guest edited by Jeffrey Pomerantz, this issue includes the JELIS 2010 Satisfaction Survey and three research articles.

The JELIS 2010 Satisfaction Survey, by Sung Jae Park and Janet L. Capps, indicates that JELIS is moving in a positive direction. This was the second annual JELIS Satisfaction Survey, and part of a longitudinal research design. The third annual survey will be deployed early in January 201 1 and we encourage each of our readers to complete it during one of your regular visits to our website (http://jelis.org).

The three research articles included in this issue all can be considered within the theme of "reaching out"; they each explore a connection between LIS education and a related culture, discipline, profession, or technology. In the first of these, Elizabeth H. Dow analyzes semistructured interview data using grounded theory methods to explore the learning experience of LIS master's students as compared with their learning experience in prior degree programs. Dow focuses her analysis specifically on the teaching and learning cultures of academic disciplines, finding that "students with only a bachelor's degree experienced little difference. . . . Students with graduate education in a skill-based discipline or one with occupational implications experienced little difficulty with the culture. Students with previous graduate education in the humanities, however, found the LIS culture very different from their previous graduate work and that it differed greatly from their expectations of graduate education. …
