Dr. Beverly Helms Receives the 78th International Achievement Award

Each year The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International recognizes one member for distinguished service to the Society. From recommendations submitted by members,chapters, or state organizations, the International Executive Board selects a member for this honor. The symbol of this honor is a gold medallion that is presented to the recipient. The first medallion for the International Achievement Award was given in 1933 to Dr, Annie Webb Blanton; the most recent award was presented at the DKG International Convention in Spokane, WA.

The 2010 International Achievement Award recipient, Dr. Beverly Helms, is a woman of strong character, who empowers others and serves as mentor to members at the chapter, state, and international levels. She was initiated in 1972 and attended her first regional conference 10 years later. In the ensuing years, she attended 19 regional conferences and 10 international conventions. In her state she has been committee chair, officer, state president, parliamentarian, and editor. At the international level she has been a member of three committees, a regional director, and a member of the administrative board. Charm, intelligence, humor, and excellent communication skills describe her leadership qualities.

Dr. Helms has had a varied career in education as a consultant, administrator, adjunct professor, trainer, and speech pathologist. A long-time citizen of Florida, she received three degrees from Florida State University. …
