Article excerpt

THE 16-BAR POP/ROCK AUDITION. 100 Songs Excerpted for Successful Auditions. Compiled and Edited by Michael Dansicker. Two volumes: Women's Edition and Men's Edition. Hal Leonard, 2010.

Because of the frequency of classic pop/rock songs turning up in music theater today, the music theater singer must of necessity know some songs from the pop/rock style. Michael Dansicker, arranger, composer, musical director, and pianist for Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, composer for various films and well known concert dance groups has compiled this volume of audition material. For those voice teachers who work with auditioning music theater singers, this collection should be of great use. There is a wide variety of songs, and each is timed for a thirty second presentation.
