The purpose of this book, which really covers lots of issues in families, is to synthesize and analyze the vast literature examining families' responses to transitions and other stressful life events. The editors mention that since the first volume was published in 1994, there have been a number of major stressors for families: technological changes; living in a very fastpaced society that stresses adults and children alike; uncertainties about job security and job advancement; both parents working outside the home; the economic discrimination still experienced by women and minorities; and an ongoing lack of quality daycare for children and family healthcare. …
