The seventeen papers assembled here were presented at the Franco-German workshop 'Transfert des savoirs au Moyen Age', held at the University of Heidelberg on 15-18 January 2008. The first section, Traductions, gloses, plurtiinguisme', opens with a survey of Old and Mddle French translations of Aristotle, while also examining various translations moving between French, Spanish, and Italian; biblical glossaries involving Hebrew, Latin, and French; the techniques used in medieval England to teach both French and Latin; and the ways in which a particular language - Latin or vernacular - might function as a vehicle of both knowledge and power. …
