ISBN 978-2-503-52867-0. euro69.00. This volume presents a coUection of essays focusing on an episode of book III of Froissart's Chroniques: his sojourn at the court of Gaston Fébus in Beam. Despite the recent proliferation of studies of Froissart's works, a phenomenon pointed out by the editor, this volume manages to create a niche in which a particular time and space may be explored in considerable detail. The study is divided into five sections; the first sits rather oddly here, as it consists of only one chapter, on the manuscript tradition of book III, but this is nonetheless a useful addition to the following sections. These focus more consistendy on the cultural life of the court of Béarn, the relationship between Froissart and his patron, Gaston, and the interplay between Froissart's poetic works and his historical chronicle. …
