I have been a Physical Education teacher in New Zealand and the UK for 8 years and have attended many courses, and read a multitude of books and articles promising strategies and activities to keep my students engaged in their learning. There is a lot out there about'what'we should be teaching our young people, but there is very little of the 'how', and we often try to reinvent the wheel in an attempt to keep our lessons relevant and interesting. I picked up 101 Classroom Games expecting the same old, another book on the content of the curriculum and the outcomes we are trying to achieve. Instead I got a ready to use, hands-on approach book with solid lessons plans, activities and context suggestions to use for my lessons. It is an easy read, and the innovative idea's flow in a natural progression from task to task.

I have tried many of the activities, finding it easy to link an activity with a current unit of work in my class. I watched my senior class work in teams when they played 'Beach Volleyball' to assess their biomechanical understanding, drawing from each others knowledge. …
