At his tender age

I too surely shared

that same sweet thought

in such beautiful, blinding, swirling mist

like the wonderfully diffused grasses

and pastel of blooms

framing this bit of profile

of his supine body,

just a little blue bib

vanishing into the lens's mesh

of shoulder and breast,

and the perfect submission

of his honey-colored face with eye

gently shut against the sun's stem light.

The farther elbow bent

to rise through background, his hand

dangles titanlike to slender fingers

smudged with good earth,

forefinger and thumb pinching

a pink strand of yarn

holding fast but pulled taut

by the five free legs of a lustrous beetle

frozen on its captor's still forehead. …
