The Middle French Visions of the Knight Tondal, written by David Aubert in 1475 for Margaret of York, survive in a single, wonderfully illuminated manuscript Q. Paul Getty Museum, MS 30). Despite the fact that images of most of the manuscript folios are available on the Getty Museum website and that the text was re-edited by Mattia Cavagna as recently as 2008, de Pontfarcy^ edition is useful insofar as it allows easy comparison to Aubert's source, the mid-twelfth-century Visio Tnugdali. Her transcription of the Middle French, which seeks to retain something of the 'particularité visuelle du manuscrit', appears at the top of left-hand pages. Below is the Latin text, freshly edited by de Pontfarcy from MS Ghent, UniversiteitsbibL, 316, selected from a sample of around twenty-five manuscripts preserving the Visio as the closest to Aubert's original source (although there are over ioo other witnesses extant). …
