Given the existing historiography in either English or Spanish on the participation of German anarcho-syndicalists in the Spanish revolution, this book is a very welcome addition. The book foUows the activities of the exded German anarcho-syndicalists in Barcelona from 1936 under the umbreUa of the DAS (Deutsche Anarchosynddcalisten), from their participation in the militias on the Aragonese front, to their key role in antiNazi actions in Barcelona, through to the tensions with the republican state and with the CNT (National Confederation of Labour).

The book is divided into ten chapters covering German emigration to Barcelona, the role of the DAS in the anti-fascist militias, the role of the DAS in guaranteeing the new revolutionary public order in the city, revolutionary expropriations of property, particulady of Nazi supporters in Barcelona, the relations between the DAS, the CNT and the IWA (International Workers' Association) and the fate of the DAS from May 1937 onwards, when the Marxist POUM was illegalised and persecuted by the republican state. …
