Questions related to different concepts of cognitive styles surely concern all areas of human life, and they form one of the main concepts that successfully contribute to the interpretation as well as explanation of human behavior. The original relation between personality and perception has been extended to other areas of study, which is also evident from newly arising concepts of the individual dimensions of cognitive styles and new research projects in this important field. Although aspects of cognitive style, e.g., time stability, ecological validity of concepts, etc., are not explicitly understood, application possibilities come out as highly effective.

The 2/2012 monothematic issue introduces results of mainly European research projects - from Slovakia, Spain, Czech Republic and Greece. Our original aim was to present an integrated view into cognitive styles from different aspects, e.g., cross-cultural, coping, decision-making, partners' preference. Not all aspects are represented in the issue, however, of great interest to us is the revived interest in "older" but still present dimensions of cognitive styles, such as "field dependence-independence" (Witkin) or "category width" (Pettigrew).
