As the closing music of Volume 5 of MSMI fades out and the theme tune to Volume 6 starts up you may notice some new names in the title credits. After five years Anahid Kassabian has stepped down as co-editor, and joining me are Helen Hanson and Jay Beck, to form a new editorial team of three. Helen's published work focuses on female figures in popular American cinema, with a particular interest in their representation through sound, soundscape and sound style; her much-cited article on the affects of sound in classic film noir was published in the very first issue of MSMI. Jay also has had a significant role in the journal's development, in co-editing, with Tony Grajeda, the special issue (Vol. 2:2) on The Future of Sound Studies, following on from their groundbreaking collection Lowering the Boom: Critical Studies in Film Sound (reviewed in MSMI 3:1). Welcome to both of them.

To Anahid I must extend a heartfelt 'thank you' for joining me in the first place to launch and edit Music, Sound, and the Moving Image. Her expertise, experience, nous, inspired leaps of imagination, impatience with received ideas, and patience with an inexperienced co-editor have all played an integral part in the development of this journal.
