AGA Moving Ahead with Globalization Efforts

AGA's International Development Committee has been actively seeking ways to expand the Association's presence throughout the international financial management community. The 1997-98 committee has been working on its goals and objectives for AGA's globalization effort. In addition to past efforts, which have included a partnership with the International Consortium for Governmental Financial Management, the committee is ready to embark on the first steps necessary to take AGA into the global arena. Committee members, including chair William L. Taylor, CGFM, and vice chair Linda Weeks, CGFM, have established the objectives for AGA's globalization efforts over the coming years.

The committee's first objective has been the development of a clear statement of AGA's vision for "globalization." This has involved formulating goals and a mission statement for AGA's globalization approach. Such goals include the provision of services to AGA's members, assessing and meeting member's needs in thinking globally, as well as establishing and defining policies and services for AGA members overseas.

AGA will also seek to actively read out to American citizens working and living abroad. The first step in this process will be to assist AGA's current overseas chap ters by establishing a direct link between the International Development Committee and the chapter leadership. This process will also involve working with agencies, such as the Departments of Defense and State, the U.S. Agency for Intemational Development (USAID) and other groups to ensure that the training and developmental needs of Americans abroad are being met. …
