Connections matter. Need proof? Let's take a look at the story of AAFCS' summer intern, Muhammad Masud. How many connections can you spot?

Muhammad is a student at the University of Georgia, majoring in consumer economics. He learned about the internship opportunity at AAFCS when Sophy Mott, AAFCS senior member relations manager, spoke to his pre-internship class in February. Sophy was at UGA attending the 2 -day conference, Home Economics: Classroom, Corporate and Cultural Interpretations Revisited,* coordinated by 2012 Distinguished Service Award recipient Sharon Nickols. While there, she saw Don Bower (among many other AAFCS members.)

Don, knowing that Sophy worked with the AAFCS Student Unit and the membership committee, introduced Sophy to Anne L. Sweaney, the head of the UGA Department of Housing and Consumer Economics. Anne was teaching a preinternship class, and invited Sophy to come speak about AAFCS and student opportunities. Glad for a chance to visit the University of Georgia College of Family & Consumer Sciences (home of Student Unit Chair-Elect Brittany Trotter and Outstanding Advisor Award Recipient Connie Rash, among other notable members), Sophy spoke to Dr. Sweaney 's class. It was good timing as the internship application period was open. The AAFCS internship is made possible by the James D. Moran III Fund.
