It is sad to announce the passing away of Ms. Maryam Jameelah, on 31st October 2012 in Lahore.

Born as Margaret Marcus on 23 rd May 1934 in New Rochelle, New York, in a German Jewish family, and endowed by spiritual curiosity, she tried to find solace in different faiths but found it in her study of Islam and the Qur'án. On May 24, 1961, she converted to Islam and adopted the name Maryam Jameelah. After accepting Mawlana Maudüdi's invitation she emigrated to Pakistan in 1962.

A prolific author, she offered a conservative defense of traditional Islamic values and culture. She was deeply critical of secularism, materialism and modernization, both in Western society, as well as in Islam.

Her books and articles have been translated into several languages including Urdu, Persian, Turkish, Bengali and Bahasa Indonesia. …
