A Special Announcement: The Strong Research Fellowship

The Strong-publisher of the American Journal of Play and home to the world's most comprehensive collection of dolls, toys, games, and library and archival materials related to play-is pleased to announce The Strong Research Fellowships. The fellowships provide financial support for scholarly play research on site at The Strong in Rochester, New York.

The Strong invites applications from academic professionals, independent scholars, museum scholars, and advanced graduate students at the masters or PhD level living outside a fifty-mile radius of The Strong. Fellowships are awarded three times a year and granted for periods ranging from one week to three months in the following amounts: a $400 stipend per week for a maximum of three weeks, and a $1,500 stipend per month for a maximum of three months.

Research projects eligible for funding must benefit from access to collections held by The Strong and its Play Partners, including:

* Materials in The Strong's Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play. In addition to housing the personal library and papers of Brian Sutton-Smith and other play scholars, the more than 140,000-volume research library and archives holds scholarly works, popular and children's books, professional journals, periodicals-including 100 years of Playthings magazine-trade catalogs, comic books, manuscripts, game design materials, and personal papers. …
