Happy 2013 to all! With this issue of the Journal of Nursing Measurement, there are some important endings and several new beginnings. It is the end of another year, and the end of the journal being under the direction of its founding editor-in-chief and editorial board. At the same time, it is the beginning of a new year, a new editor-inchief, and a new smaller editorial board.

This journal's description is as follows:

The Journal of Nursing Measurement specifically addresses instrumentation in nursing. It serves as a prime forum for disseminating information on instruments, tools, approaches, and procedures developed or used for measuring variables in nursing research, practice, and education. Particular emphasis is placed on evidence for the reliability, validity, sensitivity, and specificity of such instruments. The journal includes innovative discussions of theories, principles, practices, and issues relevant to nursing measurement.

I am very grateful to the founding editor-in-chief and editorial board for making the journal what it is today, but much has changed in nursing research, practice, and education in the past 20 years while the journal description has not changed. …
