I started reading this book in an airport lounge on the way to give a lecture on leadership and motivation at the Business School of Cordoba University. Being busy, I wanted a read that would engage me, but not stretch me too much and this book proved to fit that specification well,

The author gives a superb overview of mentoring, counselling, consultancy, teaching and training but clearly her focus is on coaching, be it the use of 'internal' or 'external' variety. I particularly enjoyed the overview of the use of internal and external [to an organisation] coaches, as I wrote a paper on this subject for an international symposium and there are real issues on both sides of that debate. When it came to an overview of what makes a good leader, and later what makes an outstanding leader, the work is less convincing. …
