I joined Sidney Sussex College in 1999 after my previous post in the local NHS Trust community hospital was made redundant

My role is very varied and interesting. As well as working for the senior tutor, my work includes examination administration, co-ordinating arrangements for our graduands to proceed to graduation, preparation of material for the college annual, and preparation for the arrival of undergraduate 'Freshers' each October. However, as the years have passed and I have acquired more knowledge and understanding - together with technological changes - the role has expanded and the above is just a brief indication of some of my areas of responsibility.

How long have you been a member of the IAM?

For approximately 15 years.

Why did you join the Institute?

When my former employer was downsizing the affected staff were given the opportunity to pursue courses and training to prepare for other roles within the organisation or to help them find employment elsewhere. I decided to take the Certificate in Administrative Management and enrolled as a student member of the IAM. I should say that my perception of the organisation was that it was excellent at developing staff potential, and that training and development was ongoing, even before the downsizing was instigated.
