Prof. Sharif al Mujahid, one of the outstanding scholars of Pakistan, is not only known for his expertise on the Freedom Movement of Pakistan and studies on the Quaid-i Azam but also for his contribution in the founding and developing of important academic institutions e.g. Departments of Journalism in the University of Karachi and the University of Malaysia, and most important of them serving as the founder-director of the Quaid-i Azam Academy Karachi and guiding it in its initial phase. His services have been recognized by the Government of Pakistan by the award of the Sitarah-i Imtiaz (Distinguished Star) and as the Distinguished National Professor by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Even long after his retirement from active service and facing quite serious problems of health he is continuously engaged in highly rewarding academic pursuits.

Pakistan is one of the two states that came into existence on an ideological basis. When the Muslims of South Asia were unable to secure an agreement with the Hindu majority for safeguarding their political ' future they had to seek some other alternative as envisaged by Iqbal in 1930. During the Colonial rule they were constantly portrayed as a minority and had to struggle against Colonial persecution and overbearing attitude of the majority. After continuous struggle in all fields of their life by the forties of the 20th century they came to realize that by sheer dint of their numbers (forty crores) and large contiguous areas of their population they were not a minority but a nation. …
