South Congregational Church United Church of Christ (South Church), Kennebunkport, Maine, announces a contest for hymn writers, with a prize of $1000 for the winning entry. We are asking for a new hymn which speaks of the Church and its ministry to the wider community, rooted in its history, responsive to the present and laying a foundation for the future.

During 2013, South Church is celebrating the 175 th anniversary of its founding. South Church is also home to four pastors who will reach significant ordination anniversaries in 2013. The new hymn will be dedicated to these ministers.

This is a search for a new text and tune. However texts in familiar meters which may be sung to familiar tunes are also welcome. The language of the text should be contemporary and inclusive. Hymns previously published or currently entered in other contests should not be submitted.

South Church is a member of the United Church of Christ, is a liberal and inclusive church with a strong sense of outreach and mission. Members regularly volunteer at the local soup kitchen, state-wide food pantry and Habitat for Humanity. …
