George H. Guest arranged and pointed this psalter during his tenure as the organist and choirmaster of St. John's College in Cambridge, England. It is a useful collection of chants, carefully chosen for the psalms they accompany. The collection includes many of the traditional chants of Anglicanism, including compositions by John Goss, J. Turle, S. Elvey, Attwood, Norris, and C. Hylton Stewart, among others.

The introduction includes a short biography of Guest, a description of the Psalms as a "Songbook of Prayer," and a brief description of Anglican chant and the use of the organ to accompany it. For musicians or choirs who are unfamiliar with singing Anglican chant, an explanation is provided of the symbols and performance practices of chanting.

The use of bold print to indicate melismatic sections, rather than brackets or slurs, is helpful, as is the use of double slashes around words whose melismas stretch beyond a single measure. …
