In these two collections of articles (a third containing d'Alverny's work on Alain of Lille is also planned) relatively little actual annotation is supplied, but the studies seem almost to comment upon each other and supply their own annotation. The first collection treats the development of the figura of Wisdom, which began in the wisdom literature of the Bible as God's (feminine) helper in the creation of the cosmos, but one who subsequently combined in the patristic tradition with the masculine Logos, emerging subsequently as the mother of the seven liberal arts, as Boethius' Philosophy, and as the Donna Gentile of Dante, among many others. …
