Not for sale; free to members. Three short prose chronicles make up this edition. The first, 'The Chronicle of Wigmore Abbey", is primarily concerned with the foundation in 1172 of an abbey of Austin canons, its endowment by Hugh Mortimer II, and its conflicts and eventual reconciliation with Hugh's son Ralph de Mortimer. The first part was probably written not long after Hugh's death in 1185, while a concluding section dealing with the abbey's relations with Ralph and the foundation of a hospital by his wife was clearly added later in the thirteenth century. The current edition represents a corrected version, adhering to contemporary editorial standards for texts of this kind, of the edition originally published by Peter Ricketts and J. …
