DEAR MEMBERS OF THE CHILDREN'S LITERATURE ASSEMBLY,

Thank you for joining us here for the spring 2013 issue of the Journal of Children's Literature. The pages ahead are filled with the latest research, reflections, and insights into the world of literature for young readers. We are indebted to the journal's editorial team for offering us yet another chapter in that great adventure!

Whether you are a new member or a longtime supporter of the Children's Literature Assembly (CLA), you play a vital role in maintaining the visibility and importance of children's literature at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and beyond. As your incoming president, I would like to thank you for your membership, share with you a few highlights of CLA's projects, and invite you to become more involved with your friends in the CLA as we look forward to NCTE's annual convention in Boston in November.

In an organization as large and diverse as NCTE, the CLA provides a welcome haven for those who are passionate about children's literature. Each year, I look forward to CLA's Master Class, where colleagues pause for a moment to reflect deeply on our craft. The annual Sunday Breakfast puts leading figures on center stage, followed by the afternoon Notable Children's Books in the English Language Arts session, where we are treated to inspiring book talks and invigorating small-group discussions. …
