Although this may be the worst kept secret within SHEAR, the editors are pleased-absolutely delighted-to inform the readership of the Journal of the Early Republic that Dan Feller has been offered and has accepted the position of senior editor of the Andrew Jackson Papers at the University of Tennessee. In a sense, Dan is returning home: in his youth (now long past and spent) he was assistant editor at the Jackson Papers. The University of Tennessee's Department of History has made an outstanding choice in selecting Dan. Not only will the Jackson Papers continue to be edited with care by an expert in the field of editing and the Age of Jackson more particularly, but Dan's renown as a scholar in this period will no doubt redound to the advantage of the institution and its graduate and undergraduate students. Moreover, inasmuch as Dan has been a central figure in, and vibrant member of, SHEAR over these many years, the organization itself will no doubt realize an increased profile in the profession with his appointment to the position of senior editor at the Jackson Papers. On behalf of the members of SHEAR, we want to congratulate Dan on his new position and wish him well in his move from the University of New Mexico (and the deserts and mountains of the Southwest) to the University of Tennessee (and the mountains of East Tennessee). …
