Dear Bill,

As I stand here to acknowledge your very kind and lavish comments and those of so many dear colleagues, the first thought that comes to mind is WOW, TWENTY YEARS! Before I say a few words about those twenty years, let me express my love and gratitude to my beautiful wife Jhuma who is in the audience this evening for this special occasion. I run this organization on my own time, which means working late, in fact very late some nights, but she understands. I am ever so grateful to you darling for your love and support.

Early in my career as a young academic, I used to attend and present my research in conferences which were strictly in my own discipline and in my area of expertise. Then one year, I was invited to submit my research to an interdisciplinary conference where I was also assigned as a discussant of a paper which was not exactly related, but somewhat related to what I was working on at that time, namely local govememnt taxes and expenditures. That experience enriched my horizon and for the first time, I came to realize there was more to Economics than just systems of equations. I came back from that conference with my own ideas of incorporating all business and behavioral sciences into a national conference. With some help from the Dean of the School of Business at that time, I launched the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences in 1993. Thus began the journey of ASBBS. The first conference was held in Riviera, not very far from this venue. It was attended by a grand total of 49 faculty members each of whom presented a paper. Then came the web technology and along with that technology, came my son Pablo, fresh from high school and learning almost everything about the web technology that existed at that time. He designed the web page of ASBBS and in the next year, that is, three years from the launching of ASBBS, the attendance at the annual meeting rose to 450. …
