The Middle English Texts series presents the first edition of the Wise Book of Philosophy and Astronomy, which was one of the most widely disseminated texts on the subject of philosophy and astronomy in the medieval and early modern period. The text is pseudo-Aristotelian with a basis in the tradition of the Secreta secretorum, and contains contemporary readings in philosophy, astronomy, astrology, physiognomy, computus, and theology. It survives in thirty-four manuscripts dated between c. 1380 and c. 1600, which the editor divides into two recension groups with the exception of one manuscript, London, British Library, Sloane MS 1315, which is presented in one of the appendices. …
