This bibliography is an impressive achievement. It deals exhaustively with all aspects of the St Brenclan legend, including both Latin and vernacular versions, and is an indispensable contribution to scholarship in this field. The volume is composed of two sections. The first part is devoted to primary material, providing an exhaustive record of manuscripts, editions, and translations, and is extended to include modern literary treatments of the legend. The second part lists secondary material, essentially scholarly studies of the legend in the form of books and articles. The first part is divided into nine subsections dealing respectively with: (1) the Vita Brendani/Betha Brenainn; (2) the Navigatio Sancti Brendani; (3) the Brendan material included in the Legenda aurea; (4) other Latin texts; (5) vernacular versions of the Navigatio, including those in Catalan, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Norse, and Occitan; (6) details of St Brendan's life and the marvels associated with him; (7 and 8) references to Brendan in other saints' lives; (9) references to modern literary works deriving from the Brendan legend.
