Any book that tells us more about pupils' views of their geographical education is to be welcomed. This one is a particularly detailed and valuable study. It helpfully describes previous work in this field and presents six secondary pupils' conceptions of geography as they approached the end of Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum. There is a particularly interesting section on the implications for teachers and for future research.

The book goes well beyond the pupils' descriptions of geography in terms of their knowledge of its contents (as taught to them) and attempts to research their insights in significant detail. …
