M-libraries 4 presents a broad and enjoyable collection of writings on advances in the use of mobile technology across libraries that complement the development and further use of the technology in the sector. Particularly of interest here are chapters that cover previously under-documented areas. Carles-Pomar, Castellano and Rebollo's illuminating account of 'A new method of training users: Polimedia video for iOS and Android devices' describes a revolutionary new system for delivery of support, and Kramer's 'Searching the Library catalogue through Twitter', as the title suggests, looks at how we might move forward with an already established social network.

The book is helpfully divided into three parts. The first of these, 'Transformation', examines smaller step-changes which many of us are engaged in making in our departments. Chapters on the pros and cons of adopting an SMS alerts system, on Glasgow University Library's revolutionary Live Lab concept, with its cool 23 Things programme, on QR codes development, and on the use of Twitter as a support tool, all give solid and well-approached examples of good practice. Parsons' concluding chapter here, 'Transforming the service: supporting mobile devices with minimal budget and time', really does offer a helpful, though short, case study (Brunei University Library) on how to make it work on the cheap. …
