A Cognitive-Emotional Opening to PMMB's Second Year of Quarterly Publication

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of Renee Timmers and Eduardo Coutinho, the guest coeditors of this special issue on "Interactions between Emotion and Cognition in Music" for Psychomusicology: Music, Mind, & Brain (PMMB). Their respective broad backgrounds and unique areas of expertise greatly benefitted the development of the special issue. Timmers' first degree was in musicology, whereafter she obtained a doctoral degree in psychology. She has codeveloped the interdisciplinary research center Music, Mind, and Machine at the University of Sheffield and is an Associate Editor of PMMB. Coutinho, a prolific early career researcher, hails from the computational and engineering sciences with a doctoral degree in affective sciences. He engages in research in music, speech, emotion, and cognition in appointments at the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences in Geneva, the University of Liverpool, and the Technical University of Munich. Their call for papers for the special issue resulted in a host of submissions from around the world, and their rigorous peer review led to the multidisciplinary, international collection of outstanding articles that you see before you. PMMB is fortunate to be able to advance the discipline of psychomusicology through this focus on the integration of cognitive and emotional processes in music, all resulting from the generous and conscientious efforts of Renee Timmers and Eduardo Coutinho. …
