The World Marxian Economic Award 2013 was granted to Xinghua Wei and Theotonio Dos Santos

Professor Xinghua Wei has been researching the economic theory and problems that appeared in the process of China's economic development, reform and opening-up by adhering to the Marxist positions, viewpoints and methods. First, he clarified a series of issues in economic theory, suggesting that socialism should unify the productivity standard and the social value standard, elaborating the relations and differences between "Socialist Market Economy" and "Socialist Economy." Furthermore, he was an early advocate of the idea that socialism should pay attention to the role of the market mechanism, and put forward the operation mechanism that "national plans regulate the markets, the markets regulate the enterprises." Also, he proposed, early in his work, to explore the forms of realizing socialist public ownership and distribution according to work, and always advocated both fairness and efficiency. Last but not least, he has made a great contribution to teaching and research of political economy in China. …
