The International Journal of Nursing Research began publication in 1963. the realm of international nursing research has advanced in many ways since that time, and one of the important ways in which it has advanced is in the area of nursing measurement.

In spite of advances in the number of studies conducted and published, there are still areas for improvement. For example, Polit and Beck (2009) reported in an analysis of more than 1,000 international nursing research reports in the literature that in some countries, nurse researchers still focus on the attributes of nurses as their area of study instead of patient-centered issues. in this issue of the Journal of Nursing Measurement, i am happy to offer an array of international nurse researchers who are helping to defy this trend and focusing on the quantification of critical patient-centered issues.

In the first article in this issue, Changrong Yuan and colleagues tested measurement invariance in the Chinese version of a tool that looks at strategies used to promote health among more than 700 patients with cancer. European researchers are focusing on i mportant patient-centered challenges as well. Josef rechenmacher and colleagues from austria evaluated the diagnostic efficiency of a checklist to assess the risk of violence in the form of physical attacks toward medical staff and other patients. …
