RSPH Annual Conference and Awards Ceremony - Healthy Settings and Developing Wellbeing in the Community

The settings in which we live offer huge opportunities and threats to our health. addressing the social determinants of health is vital to improving population health and reducing health inequalities, and utilising a settings based approach to health provides a way to promote, improve and protect health and tackle health inequalities. This conference will feature talks from key public health figures, including Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Director of UCL institute for Health Equity, and Jane Ellison MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health, Department of Health. This event is also an opportunity to celebrate our award winners and high achievers in our qualifications, offering a great opportunity for networking with public health colleagues.

RSPH Members' Event - Enigmatic Essentials - The History and Future of Vitamins

The history of vitamins is relatively recent - the word was coined in 1912 - and still unfolding. When diseases such as scurvy and beriberi were first recognised, they were attributed to infections or toxins, rather than to deficiency of an essential nutrient factor. Chemical research eventually identified these compounds and allowed synthesis for large- scale consumption - but how much do we know about vitamins even now? Up-to-date research will be covered including food sources, supplements and functions of what vitamins do in the body. This enjoyable and informative evening event, led by nutritional expert Dr Mabel Blades and public health epidemiologist Dr rosalind Stanwell- Smith, will include intriguing tales from their history and an overview of recent research. …
