Passion = Success. How to be the best at your current job or how to get the job you really want all starts with the passion in you!, by April Pickering. 2011. Minneapolis, MN: Two Harbors Press. 80 pages. Paper. $14.95

This book is a job search, self-help book focused on positive self- talk and passion as tools for achieving success. It is directed toward unemployed and/or underemployed women who entered the workforce without a college education and now find themselves in a tight job market. April Pickering, the author, is self-taught. She equates her success and ability to overcome job market liabilities such as a lack of college education to having passion. While interesting, with a compelling personal story, this book does not have enough job search worthy material that is truly applicable in today's job market. An individual can be passionate and even highly motivated to obtain a job, but if the job market requirements (education, computer skills, local knowledge) are not possessed, then long-term, meaningful employment will remain elusive.

For the CPAD audience this book would be a useful conversation starter under very specific circumstances for someone who works with other people to find jobs. Since it is more autobiographical, it does not have enough employment and skills-based specific information to be applicable on a broad basis. …
