Morris D. Forkosch Prize

The Journal of the History of Ideas is pleased to announce the winner of the Morris D. Forkosch Prize ($2000) for the best first book in intellectual history published in 2013: Marwa Elshakry, for her Reading Darwin in Arabic, 1860-1950, published by the University of Chicago Press.

The awards committee favors books which are published in English and which display some interdisciplinary range, demonstrate sound scholarship, and make an original contribution to the history of thought and culture.

Submissions are limited to the first book published by any author and to books published in English (no translations or collections of essays) pertaining to one or more of the major disciplines associated with "intellectual history" broadly conceived: viz., history (including the history of various arts and sciences), philosophy (including the philosophy of science, aesthetics, and other fields), political thought (including economics, social science, and anthropology), and literature (including literary criticism and theory). …
