Comparison of the Antibacterial Effects of Three Endodontic Root Canal Sealers (Ah26, Ah Plus and Mta Fillapex) on Enterococcus Faecalis

Background: Successful endodontic treatment requires ef- fective removal of the bacteria from the mechanically formed canal. Sealers used to fill the canal should also have antibacte- rial properties in order to prevent bacterial growth. In this study the antibacterial effect of three root canal sealers ; AH26, AH Plus and MTA Fillapex is compared using E.faecalis as the reference organism, which is one of the most resistant bacteria causing root canal treatment failure.

Methods: Five plates of Muller-Hinton agar were simultane- ously inoculated with a standard solution of E.faecalis (ATCC 29212). Each plate was divided into 3 equal parts with a 6mm well in each section. Each well was used for one type of seal- er. Freshly prepared sealers were then poured into their wells.
