Evaluation of the Pattern of Antibiotic Resistance and Incidence of Broad-Spectrume Betalactamases Type Veb and Integron Class1 at Acinetobacter Isolations Separated from Clinical Specimen at Educationa

Article excerpt

Background: Acinetobacter has emerged as a significant op- portunistic pathogen responsible for nosocomial infections. Treatment of infections due to this organism is becoming a serious clinical concern and these bacteria are frequently re- sistant to multiple classes of antibiotics such as Family of beta-lactam drugs. The b-lactamase enzymes represent the main mechanism of bacterial resistance to b-lactam antibiot- ics. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of VEB and INT 1 in Acinetobacter isolates from sari hospital

Methods: The study included 100 Acinetobacter isolates that were isolated from various clinical specimens. Susceptibility of isolates to the antibiotics was determined by standard disk diffusion method.ESBL production was determined by com- bination disk method. Using disks containing ceftazidim and cefotaxim alone and incombination with Clavulanic acid and VEB and Integron class1 producing genes wasdetected by PCR test. …
