Drug Susceptibility Pattern of Different Antimicrobials on Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, Isolated from Patients Admitted to Khatam Hospital

Background: The aim of this study was to determine antibi- otic sensitivity pattern of HA-MRSA and conduct on new antibacterial agents.

Methods: For this study 150 S.aureus strains were isolated from patients of Khatam hospital in Tehran, Iran from Janu- arys 2013 to J une 2014. Sterilized nasal swabs were used to collect nasal specimen. Nasal isolates were further recognized as S.aureus strains by standard biochemical tests, and disk diffusion method was used to determine their methicillin resistance pattern. Susceptibility to antimicrobial agents was performed on MRSA strains for 7 antibiotics including gen- tamicin, vancomycin, erythromycin, chloramphenicol, rifam- pin, linezolid and teicoplanin according to CLSI guidelines. Then, susceptibility of screened isolates exposed tea tree oil and methanol extract of Satureja khuzestaniea was assayed by agar well diffusion method.

Results: Our results revealed that the prevalence of MRSA isolates was 36%. Resistance rates of MRSA to various anti- biotics were as follows: erythromycin (61%) and gentamicin (50%). …
