Evaluation of the Antimirobial Effect of Lactobacillus Gasseri on Salmonella Enterica Serotype Entertidis

Article excerpt

Background: LactoBacillus spp., as probiotics bacteria, is be- ing increasingly studied for their inhibitory activity against pathogenic bacteria. There is some evidence that they are not effective against gram -negative bacteria. The objective of this study was to investigate the antagonistic activity of lactoBacil- lus gasseri (Lga C009) against resistant Salmonella enterica sero- type enteritidis (ATCC 13311).

Methods: In this study, Antimicrobial activity of common bacteria causing gastroenteritis in children (Salmonella enterica serotype entertidis ATCC13311) was evaluated using three microbiological methods, Disk Diffusion Agar, Well Diffu- sion Agar and Agar spot test.

Results: The highest inhibitory effect achieved by Well Dif- fusion Agar with an inhibitory zone diameter of 0.2 ±0.7 mm and the minimum belonged to Agar spot test with an inhibi- tory zone diameter of 0. …
