Distribution of Fimbriae Virulence Genes in Different Phylogenetic Groups Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli Strains Isolated from Patients with Urinary Tract Infection in Sistan

Article excerpt

Background: Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) is the most important cause of urinary tract infections. These strains with specific virulence factors, including fimH, sfa, papC, foc and afaI have the potential pathogenicity in the urinary tract. Phy- logenetic studies puts the bacteria into four main groups A, B1, B2 and D. Extra-intestinal pathogenic strains are substan- tially in B2 group, and less in D Group. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of pathogenic genes, which are listed according to the type phylogroup E. coli iso- lated from patients with urinary tract infection in Sistan.

Methods: In this study, 100 E. coli samples were collected from patients with urinary tract infection in hospitalized pa- tients and referring to Zahedan and Zabol laboratories. After the biochemical tests to confirm the samples, DNA was ex- tracted by a boiling method. …
