Detection of Vana Genotype in Enterococcus Gallinarum Isolated from Poultry Meat Samples

Background: This study was aimed to investigate the occur- rence and molecular characterization of vancomycin suscep- tibility within E. gallinarum isolated from poultry meat sam- ples collected from Tehran poultry meat dealers.

Methods: One hundred poultry meat samples (70 chickens and 30 turkeys) were screened for Enterococci contamination assay. The isolates were confirmed as E. gallinarum by bio- chemical standard tests. They were further characterized by antibiotic susceptibility test. The agar dilution method was used for minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) deter- mination. Finally, the strains were subjected to genetic analy- sis of vancomycin resistant gene, using specific primer sets.
