ANTIBIOTIC SUSCEPTIBILITY PATTERN OF PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA ISOLATED FROM PATIENTS WITH URINARY TRACT INFECTION ADMITTED TO DIFFERENT HOSPITALS OF TEHRAN,Iran

Article excerpt

Background: Antibiotic resistance pattern of P. aeruginosa isolates varied with geographical location and hospitals envi- ronments. The present study was conducted to determine the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from urine samples of urinary tract infection patients admitted to different hospitals of Tehran.

Methods: The urinary samples from 100 patients with uri- nary tract infection were collected consecutively between January 2013 to January 2014 and were cultured and identi- fied. According to CLSI (Clinical Laboratory Standards Insti- tute) guidelines antimicrobial susceptibility testing was per- formed by disc diffusion method.

Results: A higher resistance to Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates was observed with piperacillin/tazobactam and cefipime i.e. 42% and 40% respectively. …
