The Future of Adolescent Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel

Adolescence is a complex period of life characterized by unique physical, physiological and psychosocial changes. Although adolescence is often perceived as the healthiest stage of life , adolescents are vulnerable to a growing array of behavior-related health problems. In the past 50 years there has been a growing recognition in the need for healthcare professionals with special interdisciplinary skills dedicated to treatment of youth patients. While adolescent medical centers are well established in North America and Australia, formal training for adolescent medicine in Israel is still unavailable and adolescent medical centers are lacking in Jerusalem.

In this session we will review the challenges of establishing an adolescent medicine center in Jerusalem, and the need to recognize cultural differences. …
