Compensated Dating in Hong Kong: Prevalence, Psychosocial Correlates, and Its Relationships with Other Risk Behavior

Compensated dating, which refers to a girl's or a boy's dating with one purposively for compensation, typically remuneration among adolescents through individualized contacts of modem information and communication technology, is particularly a social problem involving young people from the stage of adolescence. Compensated dating is closely related to prostitution, which is harmful to the adolescent physically, mentally, and spiritually. The problems of compensated dating afflict girls and boys as well. However, knowledge about compensated dating among adolescents is lacking.

This paper reported the results of a survey among over 4,000 Grade 8 students in Hong Kong, including the prevalence of compensated dating, psychosocial characteristics of those who engaged in compensated dating, and relationships between compensated dating and other risk behavior. …
