The Time Is Now: The Need for Immediate Implementation of Intensive Programs for Individuals with Rett Syndrome

Rett syndrome (RTT) is a genetic disorder were reversal of clinical signs was found possible in the mouse model. Moreover, it was established in this syndrome that intensive intervention programs can improve function, ambulatory abilities, physical fitness, and longevity. Therefore, in order to avoid or delay the fourth stage of RTT and keep the children at their best medical state, an intensive daily intervention program must be applied at present for this group of clients.

The presentation will describe the findings regarding the reversal of phonotypical signs in mice with RTT and present recent findings in regards to physical activity programs in individuals and mice with RTT such as:

* Enriched environment for mice

* A treadmill training program.

* The regaining of lost walking abilities

* An intensive program within the Conductive Education (Peto) method

* Possible management of scoliosis

* Other intervention programs such as: hydrotherapy. …
