Prevalence and Correlates of Pornography Consumption among Early Adolescents in Hong Kong

The effects of pornographic exposure among adolescents are well documented. However, past research investigating the influence of sexually explicit materials mainly examined traditional pornography. It is also not clear about the potential harms of internet pornography in different Chinese contexts. Given that the Internet becomes an integral part of adolescents' life, factors related to internet pornography exposure should be examined.

To investigate the relationship between pornographic consumption and adolescents' psychological and family factors, a total of 3,328 Hong Kong secondary school students participated in a 6-year longitudinal study. Based on the first three waves of data, results showed that a significant proportion of the students had consumed pornographic materials; consumption of pornographic materials in the Internet was higher than consumption via the traditional media. …
