Healthcare can be neither universal nor equitable if it is less accessible to some sections of society than it is to others.

This presentation will highlight project EquitAble's findings on disability across the lifespan in Sudan, South Africa, Namibia, and Malawi that is crucial to enable universal and equitable access to healthcare in resource poor settings.

The findings are based on a household survey carried out in Sudan, South Africa, Namibia, and Malawi. Data from over 30,000 individuals has been analyzed in order to gain a broader understanding of the knowledge, attitudes and practices of vulnerable groups with respect to their needs for health services, the accessibility of health services and the quality of health services provided. Data has been collected on activity limitations of household members, the household composition, household income, expenditure and transfers in cash or kind in and out of the household, educational achievement and employment status, and so on. …
