This is an excellent little book that will benefit just about anyone, but has especially useful insights and inspiration for librarians. Reflecting the title, there are 21 brief chapters which follow 21 days in the life of Gnik Rowten, a young man who just moved to a new city and is starting a new marketing business (and whose parents did indeed name him "networking" backwards). Gnik's main lesson for each day is an "Aha! moment" highlighted with bold text as he learns and builds a powerful network over three weeks.

The lessons range from applying overarching concepts - such as the power of generosity, sincerity, reciprocity, and positivity - to leveraging online social networks and realizing that one's network effectively extends far beyond one's own friends and connections. Gnik learns that the secret to everything is relationships and that building relationships and empowering others improves his own professional prospects as well as his quality of life. Librarians will recognize that many of the qualities of a good reference librarian are the same qualities that a good networker exhibits: a friendly, attentive listener who asks the right questions and is happy to help. But what if a reference librarian helped facilitate beneficial connections between library users?
